TRUTH SERIES 33-MY NEW FRIEND

This week I will be sharing with you a conversation I engaged with my new friend, which we can all learn from. Some few weeks ago at the restaurant, I met a young man, a graduate of geography and town planning. I overheard this young man telling the guy sitting beside him that he is frustrated, he said how can I as a graduate not have a meaning job , at a point I don’t want to interfere in their conversation not until when he said ,even if he has opportunity to smuggle cocaine out of Nigeria, that he does not mind to be involve.

I can’t but share my thoughts with him that he does not need to be involved in such illegal act.

We engaged in the following conversation.

Unique seun: I ask my new friend , what if you are caught by NDLEA? He could not give a straight answer. I told him you will spend the rest of your life in jail, which is not the best for you.

My new friend: He said in this country that one need connection to make it but unfortunately , nobody is willing to help.

Unique seun: I agreed, but I ask how prepared are you for this connection? Hmm, He ponders on it for a while. I gave him a scenario, which goes thus, what if by chance you meet with the minister of housing. As a graduate of Town planning and Geography, what will you put before the minster? Do you have a business proposal? Do you have a business card? I told him an exchange must take place before he can get anything out of life.

My new Friend: I have an idea of rural housing Estates.

Unique seun: fine, have you put it in black and white?

My new friend: No, I have it on my head.

Unique seun: Hmmm, I told him point blank, you are not yet prepared, that what you have not put in black and white, you have not yet believe in it, and you cannot work on it or take action on it. I said the bible is so powerful because it is the written word of God and same goes for the constitution of any nation.

My new friend: Hmm, He nodded in agreement.

Unique seun: I said success only happens when preparation meets with opportunity. I told him, now that you are not yet employed, you have the greatest opportunity to sit down and think your way out of your present situation. I told him he has a great future ahead of him. That he just need an idea to access the wealth of the land.

First and foremost, I told my friend, he should never put money first in what ever he wants to embark on, because at first ,you will not always have enough to start something.I said this is the key, You need to ask yourself these sincere questions, What can I do well? What do I have passion for? What am I good at? What do I have now to get what I want ?

After about 35minutes of our discussion, my new friend was encouraged, he reversed the statement he earlier made that he will get himself involved in pushing cocaine. He admitted that he made the statement out of frustration, that now, I have helped him to see things in a new perspective and I have given him a new understanding. He thanked me and said I am God sent.

Dear reader, our words are powerful. We may not have all the money to give to people around us, but we have the power of life in our tongue. Let us watch out for people around us who are frustrated and discouraged, lets spend some few minutes with them and share some word of life with them. My new friend went away challenged and inspired to start something. I see my friend in the future becoming a CEO of a big corporation or a big businessman in Real estate business.Remember a candle loses nothing by lighting other candles.

TRUTH SERIES 33-OUR OPPORTUNITIES MUST BE EXPLORED

Let me now share with you what I delivered, I started with our opportunities must be explored. I started with a quote, Winston Churchill “A pessimist will always see difficulty in every opportunity, while an optimist will always see an opportunity in every difficulty.” I asked who are you? A pessimist or optimist. I proceeded by telling them Opportunities abound in Nigeria, that there are no green pastures any where, that it you that will determine to make a place a green pasture. I said unfortunately, why many of us are traveling out in frustration to seek for greener pastures, that foreign business men are coming in to tap into our opportunities to do business. A Yoruba sayings goes thus, nkon taw a lo si sokoto wa ni sokoto wa, meaning what we are looking afar of is within where we are. I said opportunity is all about discovering a need and providing services to meet that need, very simple as ABC, It is solving problems. But I told them, where many young people have challenges is that opportunities are not seen with naked eyes, they are only seen with the mind.

I made them realized that going to school is not to graduate and start looking for job, but the essence of going to school is to build one’s capacity to think to solve problems. I emphasized that there are no jobs for job seekers but only for problem solvers. I sound it clear that organization main goal is not to employ people but to meet some certain objectives; they only employ problem solvers to meet that set aims and objectives.

I challenge my audience that if we have enough problems and challenge them we have enough opportunities too. That our challenges are proportionally to the opportunities available. In US for instance, they have less societal problems, they have a good conducive environment, because most of their problems have been solved.

I highlighted 7 areas where they can tap into:

A, ICT

B, FOOD

C, ENTERTAINMENT

D, EDUCATION

E, LEADERSHIP AND VALUES

F, FASHION

G, AUTO MECHANICS

I hope I have been able to challenged you too by this write up, I want to hear from you. Don’t forget, Opportunity is all about discovering a need and meeting it,in doing so,money flow towards you.SEE U ON TOP.dreamnewnigeria@yahoo.com, 0803 443 8232,WATCH OUT FOR MY COLUMN IN THE NEWSPAPER SOON!

TRUTH SERIES 31-MOVE WITH UR CHEESE

Who moved my cheese by Spenser Johnson is one of the Life changing books I have ever read. It is a mini story like book of about 150 pages which one can finish in less than 3hrs and the impact is Life long, and I thought it well to share some vital Life lessons I learnt while reading the book. I first read the book in 2003 which I have read so many times.

The story is about four characters, Scurry and sniff are the mice, while the hem and haw is the little people. They face unexpected change when they discover their "Cheese" has disappeared .Each character behaves differently and responds to situation differently. Some of us act like exactly the way each of the character behaves. It is either you are a sniff, scurry, hem or haw.

Sniff- He sniffs out change early.

Scurry- Scurries into action.

Hem- He denies and resists change as he fears it will lead to something worse.

Haw-He learns to adapt on time when he sees changing can lead to something better.

CHEESE represent what we want or desire in life which could be a job, money, house, wealth, health, relationship and so on. Everyman desire to have a cheese. We need it because our happiness depends on it. approach to look for it.
Most times, cheese are not always where we think it should be, so we have to be determine to move ahead and take a new

MAZE represent where we look for what we want in life i.e. the CHEESE. Maze could also represent Life. We each live in a "Maze", a metaphor for the companies or organizations we work with, the communities we live in, the families we love places where we look for the things we want in life, In as much as everyman desire a cheese, it must be look for so as to get the good things of life which brings happiness and fulfillment

And how we look and where to get our cheese are different. Each individual determine the cheese he is looking for and where to find it. Failure to get our cheese in life could lead to frustration. Our character most times help us to locate on time where to get the cheese. When we get our cheese on time, we are refers to as been lucky or favour.

Like sniff and scurry in the story, they were able to locate the new cheese station ahead of others. But unfortunately for hem because of his character and attitude,it was difficult for him to locate the new CHEESE STATION. I pray that will not be our portion in the journey of life.

I need to quickly share 6 lessons I learnt while reading this life transforming book.

LESSON 1-HAVING A CHEESE MAKES YOU HAPPY.

LESSON2 – IF YOU DO NOT CHANGE, YOU CAN BECOME EXTINCT.

LESSON 3- OLD BELIEFS DO NOT LEAD ONE TO FIND NEW CHEESE.

LESSON 4- IT IS NATURAL FOR CHANGE TO CONTINUALLY OCCUR, WHEATHER YOU EXPECT IT OR NOT.

LESSON 5-WHEN YOU CHANGE WHAT YOU BELIEVE, YOU CHANGE WHAT YOU DO.

LESSON 6- LET GO OF THE PAST AND ADAPT TO THE PRESENT.

Above all, I highly recommend this book for you, this is one book that will help you to adapt to change ,with =N=500 or less you can get a copy, and I bet it with you ,it will give you a new approach in life to develop a positive change attitude to get the next cheese you desire in life.

You may be asking, who moved my cheese? Oh it is no more there, While asking, you have got to MOVE AHEAD TO LOCATE THE NEW CHEESE STATION.
